I’m Corey Sheen, owner and President of Canyon Cauldrons.
I was born and raised in a small community in the Midwest, and I’ve always been proud of where I come from. After attending the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, I moved away and never returned to live in that small town, but it will always feel like home. My father still lives there, and I always enjoy going back to visit and reconnect with where it all began.
One of the questions I get asked most often is simple: Why fire pits?
That question always takes me back several years to when I was living in Arizona. My son played high school football there, and after every home game—or sometimes the following morning—a group of the football dads would gather at one friend’s house. We’d sit around the fire, talk about the game, relive the highlights, and if the moment felt right, even take a stab at solving a few of the world’s problems while sipping coffee.
Those moments around the fire were something special. They created an atmosphere where conversations flowed easily and friendships grew naturally. It gave me the opportunity to meet people I may never have crossed paths with otherwise, and it strengthened relationships with people who quickly became close friends.
Over the years, I spent a lot of time traveling back and forth between Nebraska and Arizona. No matter the season, one of the things I always looked forward to most was gathering around a fire with friends—catching up, sharing stories, and enjoying the simple moments together.
What I began to notice was that the fire itself seemed to create something bigger than just warmth or light. Every time we sat around it, new relationships formed, old friendships deepened, and conversations lasted longer than we expected.
Eventually, I decided to have a cauldron-style fire pit fabricated for my home in Arizona. I loved it so much that I had another one made for my home in Nebraska. The first time we lit that fire and hosted neighbors, their reaction planted the first real seed of an idea.
Later, when I had another one made for my son in Austin, Texas, the idea started to feel more real. That’s when I began to appreciate what it truly takes to create something like this—not just the craftsmanship of the cauldron itself, but the atmosphere it creates for the people gathered around it.
This journey hasn’t happened overnight. It has taken time, patience, and the encouragement of many people along the way. Friends, family, neighbors, and even people I’ve met through this process have offered support, advice, and belief in the idea long before it officially became a business.
What started as a simple appreciation for gathering around the fire has grown into something much bigger. Canyon Cauldrons is built on the idea that the best moments in life happen when people come together—sharing stories, building friendships, and enjoying time with the people who matter most.
And for me, it all started with a simple fire and good company.
